The Kang'ataCare Health Program, spearheaded by Governor Dr. Irungu Kang'ata, stands as a transformative initiative aimed at ensuring universal health coverage for vulnerable and indigent households in Murang'a County. As of 2025, the program sponsors 40,000 households, providing access to essential healthcare services without financial strain. Beneficiaries receive comprehensive care, including inpatient and outpatient services, dental and optical care, chronic illness management, and emergency treatment. The program also covers up to Ksh 500,000 for overseas medical procedures when necessary, Ksh 100,000 as a last expense cover for the principal member's family, and Ksh 25,000 for secondary school fees for dependents should the principal member pass away.

The program offers a full range of medical services, including inpatient and outpatient care, dental and optical treatments, chronic illness management, maternity services, and emergency care. It also provides up to Ksh 500,000 for overseas medical procedures where local treatment isn’t viable.

The program targets vulnerable and low-income households within Murang'a County. The county administration conducts a thorough profiling process to ensure support reaches those most in need.

The Murang'a County Government collaborates with the Social Health Authority (SHA) to pay premiums quarterly in advance. This proactive approach ensures that all beneficiaries continue to receive healthcare services without disruption.
