Overview

In February 2025, Murang'a County made a groundbreaking advancement in healthcare by launching Kenya's first mobile dialysis unit. This state-of-the-art mobile clinic is fully equipped with dialysis machines and essential medical equipment, enabling both hemodialysis and hemofiltration treatments. The initiative aims to enhance the quality of life for patients with kidney diseases, particularly those in remote and underserved areas.

The mobile dialysis unit offers hemodialysis and hemofiltration treatments, essential for patients with kidney diseases. It is equipped with dialysis machines and necessary medical equipment to ensure comprehensive care.

By traveling to various health centers, the mobile unit brings dialysis services directly to patients, especially those in remote areas. This reduces the need for patients to travel long distances, saving time and costs, and ensures timely medical interventions.

The project is a collaboration between the Murang'a County Government and partners including Benacare, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, Villgro Africa, Boehringer Ingelheim, and LVCT Health.

The mobile dialysis unit addresses the high burden of non-communicable diseases by providing essential dialysis services, thereby improving the quality of life for patients with kidney diseases. It also helps decongest existing healthcare facilities, allowing for better resource allocation and management.

The mobile unit travels across various health centers within the county, bringing life-saving dialysis services closer to patients who previously had to travel long distances for treatment. This approach not only reduces the burden on existing healthcare facilities but also ensures timely medical care for individuals suffering from chronic kidney conditions. The project is a collaborative effort between the Murang'a County Government and partners such as Benacare, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, Villgro Africa, Boehringer Ingelheim, and LVCT Health.
