Murang’a County is home to a number of historically significant tourist attraction sites. The Mukurwe Wa Nyagathanga Shrine is located in Murang’a County. It is said to be the ancestral home of the Agikuyu community and is now a museum managed in conjunction with the Kenyatta University Anthropology Department. It showcases various traditional artefacts as well as the rich history of the Agikuyu traditions and cultural practices.

In Tuthu – Mathioya Sub county you can find the first catholic missionary church in Murang’a County built in the early 1900s as well as the burial site of Paramount Chief Karuri Gakure. The Mau Mau caves used in the struggle for independence are found in the Aberdare Forest where tourists also engage in mountain climbing activities in the Aberdare ranges.

The area also houses various fly fishing camps which attract visitors from around the world. Water sport enthusiasts can also visit the Rapids Camp located on the banks of Mathioya River outside Murang’a town.
