Roads, Housing & Infrastructure
Under the leadership of Gov. Dr. Irungu Kang’ata, the department has rolled out a couple of programmes. Among them, the community projects program and the smart city program.
In the last financial year, under the community projects program, the department renovated and constructed (157 & 55 classes respectively) across 135 ECDE centres. This year the directorate targets another 210 ECDE centres, with an aim to finish the remaining 243 ECDE centres by FY 2023/2024.
Globally, urban areas are broadly projected to grow very fast, with about 66% of the global population expected to be living in urban areas by 2050. This is what informs the smart city program; with which 7Kms of roads across 7 towns within Murang’a County have been upgraded to bitumen standards. The projection is to do 40 Kms of tarmacked roads by FY 2026/2027.
The department is also, at the moment, working in collaboration with the trade & Cooperatives department in the establishment of County Aggregation Industrial Parks (CAIPs); the department of health in the renovation and construction of hospital and dispensary infrastructure; and also, the department of Public Administration, in the construction and renovation of county and subcounty administrative offices.
