MURANG’A WINS AFRICA CONTINENTAL AWARD
Murang’a County Government under the Leadership of H.E Governor Irungu Kang’ata has been Awarded with the IMA- “Innovative Management Award” 2024, awarded by the ‘African Association for Public Administration and Management’-AAPAM, for its innovative Healthcare Program known as “Kang’ata Care”, at the 43rd AAPM Roundtable Conference in Kampala Uganda.
Kang’ata Care, the only Kenyan Program in this Award Category, managed to beat some other 68 Innovations from across Africa, to Win the Prestigious AAPAM-IMA Gold Award. Kang’ata Care was followed by Zambia’s Health Insurance with Silver and Mauritius’ Chatbot with Bronze. The Conference was graced by Uganda’s President, Yoweri Museveni.
The main Purpose and Objective of the AAPAM-IMA is to contribute to the Innovative Development of Public Administration and Management Practices in Africa through the effective realization of the African Aspirations for the ‘Africa We Want’ as set in the Africa’s Agenda 2063, and transform our World with Goals determined in the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
KANG’ATA CARE; a Unique Supa Cover Health Insurance has been benefiting some 40,000 Needy and Vulnerable Households/Families across Murang’a County since January 2023 .
These are Households of People ailing with Chronic Diseases that are expensive to Manage, Households with People over the Age of 60 with Dependents, Households with Orphaned Children, Households with People living with Disabilities and Single Parents Households who get Medical Treatment and Care FREE of CHARGE Courtesy of Kang’ata Care.
The Now 40,000 Households translate to over 160,000 Individuals from each of Murang’a’s 35 Wards who get Medical Care and Services Free of Charge in local Private and Public Hospitals and even Abroad in special Cases.
Among the Medical Services/Care/Treatment to be enjoyed by these Beneficiaries are: Inpatient and Outpatient Treatment, Maternity, Dental and Optical Treatment, Oncology/Cancer Care, Radiology, Dialysis, Diabetes, HIV/AIDs, Cerebral Palsy, Hypertension, Arthritis, Epilepsy, Asthma, Autism, Kidney Diseases, COPD, Surgeries, Mental Health, Paralysis, Physical Disabilities, Emergency Evacuation, Ksh. 500,000 for Overseas Treatment, and Ksh. 100,000 Burial Last Expense among many other Benefits.
Other Newly introduced Benefits under Kang’ata Care include Ksh. 25,000 Secondary School Fees, Ksh. 10,000 in the event of Childbirth by the Principal Member and Ksh. 10,000 in the event of Marriage by the Principal Member.
