2024 WASCO GAMES IN MURANG’A

70 Water Service Providing Companies are converged in Murang’a County for the 13th Edition of Water Companies Sports Organization- WASCO Games. The 19 different Games, Sports Tournament which began on Monday, August 19, 2024, has brought together nearly 5000 Delegates to Murang’a, making this the first National Event to be hosted in Murang’a County. Water and Sanitation Cabinet Secretary, Eng. Eric Mugaa and Murang’a Governor, H.E Irungu Kang’ata, opened this Years’ Edition with a 10,000 Tree Seedlings Planting Exercise at Mbiri Primary School and St. Joseph’s Kiangage School, in line with the Theme of this Event which is, “Combating Climate Change through Sports”. This 5-Day Event is expected to Pump up to Ksh. 4O Million to Murang’a’s Economy according to the Host, Murang’a Water and Sanitation Company-MUWASCO.

This National Water Companies Sporting Event offers a good Opportunity for Kenya’s Water and Sanitation Services Providers to come together, Network, compare Notes and agree on the best Practices in providing reliable, affordable and sustainable Water and Sanitation Services to Kenyans. Speaking at the opening Ceremony, Water Cs Eng. Mugaa and Governor Kang’ata urged Water Companies to increase and enhance Water Connections, adopt efficient and reliable Sewerage Services and Systems, Water Metering and Billing Systems, Fair Water Tariffs for their Customers as well as enhance sustainable use of Water Resources.

National Water Coverage or access to Water in Kenya currently stands at 73%; in Murang’a County, it stands at 66%. The County Government of Murang’a, working with all Water Companies in Murang’a, is on course, increasing and enhancing reliable Water Connections to the People of Murang’a.
