Wheelchair Donation and Service Training Program
John H. Dow Jr and Marcia F. Dow, Program Specialists from The Church of Jesus Christ for the Latter day Saints (LDS Humanitarian Services) led a team comprising of therapists and specialists to Murang’a County this May. They held a 5 – day training camp at Nokras Riverine on the use and maintenance of wheelchairs and other assistive devices for people living with disabilities.
They also paid a courtesy call on the CEC Education, Youth, Sports and Social services Hon. Gerishon Nyagia Reuben and other officials from the department including Chief Officer Njai Mwangi. They promised to continue with the partnership with the county government in supporting PWDs especially in training and donation of more wheelchairs and other assistive devices. The humanitarian organization had earlier donated a total of 284 wheelchairs of different types including: 114 roughriders, 116 WM3 wheelchairs, 38 WM4 wheelchairs, and 16 standard wheelchairs. They also donated a total of 154 devices including: Forearm clutches, Auxiliary crutches, white canes and folding walkers together with 56 spare parts.
